Right back where we started

I think it might have been the Rutles and not the Beatles who played the Rats Keller in Hamburg but hopefully the meaning is clear. Literally, a cellar of rats.

  1. Nemulon performs as a simulated Max Ernst sculpture, accompanied by Dada word “GLOOB,” in panel one.

  2. Shelley is not totally wrong here. But that Cellia has some responsibilities too.

    1. Cilla, too. I believe the working hypothesis is that she is from a different future and her mission is to sabotage the Beatles.

      1. FYI, there was supposed to be a little winky face 😉 after “Cilla, too.”

    2. Celia’s mother would approve.

  3. Good thing there’s not a lot of coal dust floating in the air in that cellar, or the job of making the Beatles into big stars would require new Beatles

    1. Well, Shelley’s of that opinion while they’re still alive…

  4. “Ratskeller” means “council’s cellar”. There are towns where this may imply a difference.

    1. “Cellar of rats” is just what Eric Idle says in the Rutles.

  5. I’m obviously a bit slow, but the DestroYrotsiH logo, with its TWO Nemulons, does very much emphasise the “Quantum leaper vs evil leaper “ aspect.

    1. I wish I was that prescient.

  6. I mean, Shelley’s not wrong, but it seems like someone changed things earlier than when she arrived (maybe as a side effect of the mystery girls’ intervention from the Case of The Forked Road, but I’ve no idea how that would have lead to this, since the only change from the original timeline was Lottie’s advice to Calvin).

Is this the secret origin of the Beetles from the end of that story?

    1. I’m guessing that the Case of the Forked Road, at most, just destabilized the timeline a bit (There Are No Timelines!), making it easier for other forces to change things. I have a gut feeling that that story probably isn’t going to be directly referenced here, though I could be wrong- I mean, the beginning of this story came very close to directly referencing an old Scary Go Round story, so who knows…

      1. at the end of the Case of the Forked Road, weren’t the Beatles rule 63’d? Or was that just pulling our leg…

  7. Just wanted to compliment you on the latest email, which, among other things, contained no less than 2 alternate synonyms for “butterfly”! Both in the same paragraph!

  8. Ringo looks like he’s having a good time.

    1. Ringo is ALWAYS having a good time.

  9. “Back where we started, here we go round again” There’s a full-fledged British Invasion in my brain now.

  10. In the words of the immortal Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra: “When you come to a fork in the road, take it”.

    1. Heh. As always: the more you look at what Yogi says, the smarter it becomes.

  11. Americans will get the probably unintended pun “this coal is smokeless” = “the Skoal is smokeless”
