The loveable...  lads... from... Liverpool? Is that right?

  1. I see frogs, locusts, and boils, but I can’t tell what’s afflicting poor John.

As for Liverpool, is that a real place? I think maybe someone made it up…

    1. “I see frogs, locusts, and boils, but I can’t tell what’s afflicting poor John.”

Clumsiness? Is that a Biblical plague?

    2. I think John’s suffering from the three days of darkness.

  2. We salute your dedication to open codecs

  3. Wat.

    1. Shelley is a firm believer in an open and free internet!!

  4. Richard Honeysett

Outstanding manspreading in the last window. These menaces need to be exposed!

  5. If Sid plays his cards right, he can parlay this purchase into far more than £240 worth of drinks, meals and lifts through carefully-applied guilt.

  6. I have been loving the return of Shelley this week. Oh, the body language. Panel 3 today is a classic.

  7. I’m going back in time somewhat myself here but my confusion won’t give me any peace: way back in Monday’s comic, where exactly is the music coming from? Is it just being played over the PA in the cinema foyer? Credibility is stretched tissue thin surely if we’re to believe that the playlist a cinema chain would deploy would include a single from a band so obscure that a copy costs £240!

    1. I’m not totally clear either, but I think when Shelley was off screen in one of the first few pages, she changed something already.

    2. I love that what music a cinema would be playing over its PA is where the suspension of disbelief needle stops. In a story that features, I have to warn you, a shape-shifting robot helmet with headlamp eyes. I’m not going to be able to mitigate some of your concerns.

      1. … and, in this universe, it seems that Ogg Vorbis is used outside of Wikipedia! Too unfathomably bizarre for my mind to accept.

  8. Actually, Opus is the best of the lossy audio formats nowadays.

    1. It’s a slippery slope from “lossy” to “lousy”.

  9. NEMS. Hmmm. Never Ever Marry Shelley? Is Scout involved in this? (A man can dream, can’t he?)

    1. Well, in THIS world it stood for “North End Music Stores”, which was the Epstein family business. Later, Brian Epstein formed NEMS Enterprises, which was his musical artist management company.

  10. Is Shelley giving the shifty eye to the manspreading going on next to her, or to what that guy is looking at on his phone? Ah, the joys of public transport!

    1. The spread is the issue I think, given her tucked-in knees.

      1. It would be a good excuse for her to sidle over closer to Sid. 😉

        1. You plainly haven’t read the Giant Days 2017 Holiday Special. Sid is not a “catch”.

        2. That’s never stopped Shelley before, has it?

    2. I believe we have reached the point in history where we are allowed to say “Will you kindly stop Manspreading!”

  11. Cursed band??? Who will be so evil to be against people able do do marvelous songs? A lot of other people… sigh.

  12. I like that Paul is pre-emptively paying for the sins that he might later have committed with the Frog Chorus.

  13. Ogg vorbiscum

  14. Fun fact – WAV is a container, not a format. (It usually contains PCM 44 KHz/16-bit, like a CD).

This means you can have a MP3 WAV. Or probably a cursed OGG WAV but I’ve never tried.

    1. Today I learned a new thing.

  15. The strangest of coincidences that Vorbis is a reference to Sir Terry, yet the much more recognizable Ogg isn’t.

    GNU Terry

    1. And I learned another new thing! I had no idea, although it makes perfect sense in retrospect.

      GNU Terry Pratchett

  16. My question is “did Judy Lennon die in vain?”

  17. My other question is “when did I forget how to format a link”

    1. Fixed it for you, $40 fee now payable

  18. No no no, you’re mistaken, the Lovable Lads from Liverpool are a little band called Hhyuuuuuuuuu too?

    1. HEWWW TWO you say? Sounds like good rock n roll errr music?

    2. Hhyuuuuuuuuuu sounds suspiciously like a Houyhnhnm word to me.

  19. So we see a world where the Beatles were doomed, cursed to sporadic mentions in underground mags and musical histories as minor footnotes.
A band abortion killed before they could flower as in our world. And this story is how it really happened! The best is yet to come.
