Yes, what of Cilla’s programs, Blind Date, Surprise, Surprise, The Moment Of Truth and Egg-Stravaganza? For two decades she dominated Saturday Nights on TV with romance, reunions, ridiculous tasks and events loosely related to eggs. Has all that vanished like tears in the rain?
Looks like Freddie’s on the cover of Mojo. Has Cilla’s rise relegated him to alternative status? The Zombies instead of the Stones? Big Star instead of the Eagles?
Tomorrow’s wrap-up predictions: 1. it’s 47 panels long or 2. a vague non-ending, leading to a sequel in the (hopefully) near future or 3. basically a comic strip version of “this is my life now, deal with it and never speak of the Beatles again,” or 4. John Allison pulls a massive rabbit out of a hat and sends us away in awe of his genius.
Well, my speculation has been answered (in John’s subscriber-email, which I didn’t read before I posted this): “I’m very sorry to say that it ends on a cliffhanger, which will not be resolved until early 2021.” So, option 2.!
Re: the email, and its revelations. I’m actually kind of revealed to learn that there’s going to be a second part to this story. I can’t see any satisfying way this could have been resolved in one more page. (I am, of course, deeply disappointed in John, however. Still, I’m heartened to see that he’s working to be better. I’m a sucker for a good redemption story.)
Unless Cilla’s apparent victory has changed things, Shelley’s grasp of music from before her time is a bit fuzzy. Men confusing women with cars is more of a 70s thing. T. Rex and Queen offer good examples. Before that, songs about cars were just about cars and driving fast.
No, it was still a thing in the ’60s, and probably continues to this day.
As evidence, I submit this review of the Beach Boys album, ‘Little Deuce Coupe’.

But of course.

It’s Cilla’s world! We’re just her subjects.

The Pageboys have a certain… je ne sais quoi.

Oh no, Shelley… what have you done?

Something terrible!

Call me paranoid. But I start to think that The Beatles’ misfortune could be related to Cilla’s big fortune.

What fate has befallen Blind Date as a consequence of this foul butterfly effect?

Oh dear. The Beatles have become Page Boys.
It gives whole new connotations to Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page.”

Ringo Starr still looks pleased. What a brick!

He’s just happy to be there. Otherwise, it’s back to the machine shop in Liverpool.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
We all knew Cilla was up to no good!
She was one of those pre-1985 Ministry of History operatives gone rogue!

Man, Shelley looks so frightening yet so alluring with those gritted teeth

It came just after he finished up his Berlin trilogy, presumably.

Say this for Cilla, she got the Beatles into some properly respectable clothing.

I’ll say this: it’s an emphatic non-ending, not a vague one!

Sinister, yes, well I never trust a man in a beard with a Hawaiian shirt.

Swetting us uo for an epic battle — Shelley vs. Cilla.
I can see the sequel now…
NEMS 2: War of the Gingers!

Geez, can’t type.
Let’s try again.

No, I preferred the original one. The spelling was more aspirational

Are The Eggtones the band members that Freddie had?
Chris J. Zähller
They seem to be yet another opening act for the fateful concert. They appear on the event poster seen here: https://www.destroyhistory.com/comic/flippin-scream/
I don’t think they exist in our timeline. Chalk them up to Mr. Allison’s fertile imagination.
Chris J. Zähller
They seem to be loosely based on the Beach Boys. “She’s My Large American Car” ≈ “Little Deuce Coupe.”

Yes. Cars, driving fast, with a girl in the car.

I hate to think what this did to the famous Beatles haircuts…
